WAFTING THE ENO RIVER
May through September 2009 - Our 20th year of Wafting the Eno River!
(Please note an "urgent alert" at http://fowpp.org/3901.html)
A guided, natural history float trip in inflatable
wafts is offered at West Point Park on the Eno River led by Durham
native, naturalist "Riverdave" and partner "Riojosie." 2009 will
be our 20th year of wafting! The daytime trip focuses on the natural
beauty and biodiversity of the Eno River and provides an excellent
setting to explore your sensory connection with the river and its
native wildlife. Nighttime trips take the form of a neoprimitive
journey, allowing you to explore your intuitive and subliminal
connection with the river's night environment. We believe the wafting expeience
on the Eno River provides the public one of the best ways we know of to
experiece Durham as the "City of Medicine," offering a remedy for that
rapidly spreading modern malaise known as "nature deficit disorder."
Wafting
requires two hours of relaxed paddling in tandem boats on a tranquil
section of the river. No previous experience is required.
Equipment, including PFDs, is provided for all ages to participate
safely. There is no minimum age requirement, but children
under ten years of age generally need to be in a boat with a child over
ten years old or with an adult. Wafting for schools, universities,
camps, clubs, neighborhoods, churches, synagogues, scouts, birthday
parties, parent-child outings, senior citizens and businesses can be
easily arranged.
West Point on the Eno Park is located in north
Durham on North Roxboro Street, four miles north of Interstate
85. Wafting for individuals, families or groups is available most days at 10 AM & 3:30 PM. Nighttime wafting
is at 8 PM on weekends. Advanced reservations are strongly
encouraged, but sometimes walk-ons can be accommodated. For
nighttime trips, all participants must sign up in even numbers as we do
not like to match those unacquainted with one another in the same
tandem boat in the dark. Individuals may sign up in odd numbers for
daylight wafting. We do not waft on mondays.
The fee for all ages is $13 per person. The
fee is the same for both adults and children, purple people,
those possessing three arms or four legs, those with
lichens growing on their foreheads or seaweed under their
arms and for aliens of all planetary orientations. There are no
special group rates for anyone. Instead, we try to keep our price
reasonable for everyone and simple for us to keep up with. Sorry,
but pets are not allowed to accompany wafters in their boats.
